Medium of Exchange is an exciting interaction of traditional painting, textile based art, installation and performance. The artists draw on themes found in Margaret Atwood’s book, Payback (Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth), that connect to their individual practices and concerns. The artists’ insights circle the notion of value, with tangents penetrating the relative valuation of material goods, sexual and racial identity, respect for the environment and spirituality as commodity. Along with the exhibition, the artists have created three collaborative paintings which will be auctioned with proceeds to benefit charity.

All proceeds from the sale of the collaborative canvases will be donated to the Women in Need Society of Calgary. Women in Need helps low-income women through a variety of initiatives and programming to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
